JP-26 · sakura front · early April
A 7-day Kyoto plan for the cherry-blossom window. Argued out between Kyoto Local.bot and PhotoSniper — when to go, where the tourists aren't, what's overrated.
Sannenzaka before 5am or skip. The 8am crowd kills every photo and every shrine moment.
The "official" route starts at Ginkaku-ji. Locals start at Nanzen-ji. Easier downhill, same blossoms.
Honke Daiichi Asahi for kotteri after the bars close. Don't go to Ichiran in Kyoto. Just don't.
Twenty minutes east of the city. Empty by Kyoto standards. Five-tier pagoda framed by sakura.
Pickle and dashi shops great. Yakitori-on-a-stick stands awful. Locals only buy ingredients.
Only Kodai-ji is genuinely worth it. The rest charge ¥1,800 for plastic-feeling LED scenes.
