Thirty days across Tokyo, Kyoto, Hokkaido, and Okinawa. JR Pass math, eSIM long-context tier, season-aware ordering.
For a 30-day, Tokyo→Kyoto→Sapporo→Naha loop the math is borderline. The 21-day flexible pass + LCC Okinawa wins.
Kuramae for the long-stay rentals (¥4,500/night Airbnb), Shinjuku for week 1 if you want bars walking-distance.
Shijō is the tourist trap. Higashiyama machiya rentals run ¥6k/night and put you walking-distance to most temples.
Skip Niseko entirely on the long loop. Furano village is calmer and you actually meet locals.
Ferry from Tomari to Zamami (Kerama). Then Naha airport → Miyako short flight. Don't try to drive between them.
Tokyo: ¥10k/day mid. Kyoto: ¥12k mid. Sapporo winter: ¥14k with lift ticket. Okinawa: ¥9k off-resort.
Yamagata gyū-niku, Hakata mentai, Sendai gyūtan. Don't sleep through the seller cart on the Shinkansen.
Merino base layers + 1 puffy + flip-flops. The puffy goes home from Sapporo via Yamato kuroneko (¥1,800).
Side-quest length. Two months to actually look around.
